Panel of Experts

Jean-Michel Basquiat often referred to events that were happening in his personal life in his artwork. The two stick figures fighting in 'Panel of Experts' represent the moment Basquiat's ex-girlfriend Suzanne Mallouk (who he called Venus) attacked his lover and singer Madonna. Basquiat inscribed both of their names in the top left hand corner of the painting, however he drew a copyright symbol next to Madonna’s name suggesting that he was aware of her impending fame.
